Songs of love and longing don’t come much better than Safe Hands by Paper Aeroplanes. Deep and emotive, it’s a song that you can lose yourself in over and over again. The songwriting hasĀ great depth and is underpinned by deft musicianship that straddles just the right line between folk and pop. With pitch perfect harmonies, intricate wordplay and great storytelling, Safe Hands is our favourite track of the week.
Middleman are here to remind us all that we should follow our dreams, because life is short and there’s more to it than working just so we can struggle to pay the bills. It’s a sentiment that we’ve all heard before, and have all probably beaten ourselves up about at one time or another. But Middleman put it convincingly dishing out home truths over riffing, chiming guitars. We played it on our radio show next to Paul Weller’s From The Floorboards Up, and it didn’t sound out of place at all. Superb.
There’s an irresistible riff running through As Birds We’d Be Fine that totally gets under your skin. With beautiful poetic and uplifting lyrics, this songĀ builds to a buoyant anthemic chorus before a perfectly neat and subtle exit. Refreshingly different and definitely a band with a few tricks up their sleeve. Go listen!
